If you think you have a verruca... clink on the link to our man in the know Dave James... the foot and leg magician! https://www.dropbox.com/sh/omyivmioxt1hf2i/AAAPxjji09mYe-PzR7i-g0bOa?dl=0&preview=Day+3+Video.mp4

When you see a verruca on your child, your heart sinks. What will people think? What do I do about it? Am I a bad parent? It happens to us all and it’s more common that you think. (You’re not a bad parent BTW) Verrucas are a virus. Part of the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) Family. And what the virus does is “gets into” a host cell and then does some viral-magic to survive. The virus then hides and produces chemicals to keep it out of the immune systems watchful eye. Any treatment that we use, has to show the virus to the immune system and say “look, it’s here”. Then it could do it’s magic. But, and it’s a big but, no treatment is 100% effective. (And it someone tells you they have one that is, then call them out, because they are lying) So what can we do? Well, there’s a lot but probably the simplest four are: 1. Time (AKA leave them alone) 2. Tape - softens the verruca and makes it more comfy so that number 1 can kick in. 3. Needling - create a cell mediated response to give the immune system a wake up call. 4. Microwave therapy - heat creates a cell medicate immune response and gives the immune system a wake up call. If the verruca causes no issue, then 1 and 2 are ideal. If you are getting painful symptoms then 3 and 4 are useful. Ultimately it’s about treating you as an individual.

“I remember dropping something on this ages ago. It went black, fell off and then it grew back like this”. I’ve heard it a lot from patients. They dropped a tin of something. Maybe a patio slab in the garden. Or, they were out running a marathon. And these are all real life occurrences! When you damage the place the nail comes from (it’s got a fancy name called the matrix) it often thicken up. These nails are often unsightly and can be confused with fungal nails. Sometimes - if you have an underlying medical condition - these things can lead to an ulceration under the nail. Not nice. Just think how nice they would look with treatment. How comfortable they would feel. (No more fear about getting your feet out in summer, eh?) We can manage these in a number of ways. Thin the nail down every couple of months to keep it under control. We can recommend chemicals to help thin the nail. Or, the nail can be removed and a chemical used to stop it growing back. (Sounds drastic - but it’s an option)

Seeing as it's social media focus on fungal nails today... Did you know... we offer this treatment, ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Lacuna Method™ Fungal Nail Treatment Most people will develop a fungal nail infection at some point in their lives. In fact, as a Podiatrist, it's THE most common condition I see! Developing slowly over time, it errodes the nail, giving it that discoloured, thick and brittle aperance, which can become very uncomfortable and very unsightly! It can be limited to a single nail or spread to infect all of them. It is usually the same bugs that cause Athletes Foot! But sadly you don't need to be an Athlete to get it!! So what is The Lacuna Method™ for Fungal Nails?? The Lacuna Method is a treatment for fungal nails which involves drilling multiple micro holes through the nail plate. (Dont worry its not painful and does not require anesthetic, as the nail has already lifted away from the nail bed and become lose so you don't feel very much at all. Making the micro holes in the nail plate allows Lamisil Spray, an antifungal solution to be applied to the nail bed, (as it drips through the holes when sprayed over the nail). The nail bed (under the nail) is the area that needs treating, as this is where the active infection is, and why without using the Lacuna Method, it's so difficult to treat... because the infection is hidden under the nail! This is why most topical nail treatments disappointingly don't work! Because they don't reach under the nail!! An initial assesment will be required prior to treatment. If you are eligible, you will usually be booked in at the next confident appointment. A treatment typically takes 30 minutes. You will then be given individual instructions on how to continue your treatment at home, usually you will be asked to apply Lamisil Spray solution every day and return at 6 weekly reviews where we will also cut your toenails (so you dont cross infect yourself with your own unsterile sissors!). This will continue until the damaged nail has grown out. As the nail is 'dead' the holes remain and grow out naturally. You may require more holes to be drilled at each visit, depending on the severity of the fungal infection. On average it will take six months to one year for a toe nail to grow out with treatment...
