"Did you get that antifungal cream I recommended for your fungal infection?"......"No but I have used Savlon / Dettol / E45 lotion / Tea Tree Oil / Listerine" (Seriously, I've heard them all). These photos show fungal skin (or Tinea Pedis) infections in it's various guises. This is also known as Athlete's Foot, it may not be what you expected, but trust me it's absolutely rife this time of year. How does it happen? Well your skin is already colonised by all kinds of organisms that contribute to a well balanced ecosystem. Sometimes though, this can become out of kilter and an overflourish of 'dermatophytes' can occur. Warm damp conditions (exactly what's going on in your shoes in this humidity) then provide the perfect breeding ground and Hey Presto! Fungi!! Not all skin complaints are fungal though and the most important thing of course is to get it properly looked at by a lovely HCPC registered Podiatrist. If it's diagnosed as fungal, specific treatments can be used and it will be gone in no time!! There's a reason why Podiatrists recommend certain medicated applications. Tricophton Rubrum is the most common dermatophyte to cause fungal infection but it's not the only dermatophyte on the block. Terbinafine Hydrochloride is a broad spectrum antifungal medication that will kill off an array of types of fungal and yeast infections. You WILL NOT find Terbinafine in Listerine / Savlon etc etc etc...... Prevention of course is always better than cure!! DRY IN BETWEEN YOUR TOES PROPERLY!!!!

DON'T FORGET SUNCREAM, EVEN ON THE SOLES OF YOUR FEET🔥🔥🔥☀️☀️☀️ "How long have you had that mole" 🤔 This is a common question that I find myself asking new patients, particularly at this time of year. The answer is unsurprisingly quite often "what mole?"; who REALLY examines the soles of their own feet? While in themselves moles are not a threat to health, changes in your skin can indicate skin cancer. There are three main types of skin cancer, the most serious being melanoma. This unfortunately is on the increase and is now the 5th most common cancer in the UK. One of the first things taught on the Podiatry degree course is to identify suspicious lesions and refer on appropriately. "E" can also stand for expert, if in doubt, if you notice any changes in your skin, seek expert advice 🤓

You need to be degree qualified to earn the titles "Chiropodist" & "Podiatrist", those carrying out foot care without a degree are not regulated. Choose wisely 💅💅💅

PODIATRISTS FIX PLANTAR FASCIITIS If you've ever suffered from plantar fasciitis you'll know that it can be both extremely painful and debilitating 😣 The plantar fascia is a connective tissue spanning almost the whole length of the foot, forming the arch. For a whole range of reasons this can become inflamed, most commonly causing pain in the heel. Plantar fasciitis is not the only cause of heel pain and it is important to obtain a definite diagnosis before a treatment plan.
